There are many ways that can be used to make sure that you are keeping yourself safe at work. One of the basic yet important methods that you can do is to obey all safety hazard signs found in your station and other areas in your workplace. However, if you do not understand what message is being conveyed by the signs, it will be difficult for you to follow the signage. So before anything else, make it a point to study all types of safety hazard signs.
Remember that signs usually come in four colours. Occupational health and safety placards that come in red shades indicate a warning. These are useful for situations where danger is not readily apparent to a person. Safety hazard signs with yellow background, on the other hand, represent caution. When the danger is not considered grave or if it does not seriously threaten a person's life, the caution signs should be used.
There are still two other classifications of the safety hazard signs. The signs that come with the blue background tell people to follow a certain action. The blue colour simply means mandatory so no one is exempted from noncompliance of the OHS protocol indicated on the sign. For example, if a pair of gloves is printed on top of the blue circle, you need to wear your own hand PPE.
The last category of safety hazard signs includes placards in green background. These signs are used for safety and emergency purposes so you can rely on them in situations where immediate medical attention or where an emergency response action is needed.
