As we all know, safety signage is divided into various categories. There are signs that prohibit people from doing certain actions; there are placards that provide general information to the public. Aside from these signs, there also those that require people to do a particular action and these are called mandatory signs.
The main determining factor of mandatory signs is their use of the blue circle, which is usually accompanied with an image or some text inside it. The graphics or text typically comes in white colour so that it can be seen with the blue background on them. You can see signs with gloves, hard hats, and suits printed on them. When you see these, you are simply required to wear personal protective equipment or PPE before entering a high-risk zone. This variation is usually common in factories, laboratories, and industrial areas where hazards are always present.
Of course, just like any other safety placards, mandatory signs are not to be considered as sole substitutes for an occupational health and safety programme. If you want to have a hazard-free working environment, inculcate to everyone the importance of practising safety measures. Provide them with a comprehensive OHS plan that will lead you and your firm towards a less risky and accident-free premises. Nevertheless, use mandatory signs to provide the workers and the public with safety reminders. As we all know, they could sometimes neglect the protocols that they should follow. At least, with the signage, you will be able to emphasise the importance of safety in the workplace.
